Blended Cement

Blended cement can be defined as uniform mix of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and blending materials such as silica fumes, fly ash, limestone and slag to enhance its properties for different uses.

Characteristic of Blended Cement.

Ø  Reduces water demand.
Ø  Enhances resistance to sulphate attack and chloride protection.
Ø  Improves workability and pumpability.
Ø  Lower drying shrinkage and creep.
Ø  Lower potential for alkali aggregate reaction.
Ø  Decreases bleed control

Types of Blended Cement

Ø  Types IS (X), Portland Slag Cement
Ø  Type IP (X), Portland-Pozzolana Cement
Ø  Type IL (X), Portland-Limestone Cement
Ø  Type IT, Ternary Blended Cement

Uses of Blended Cement

Ø  It is used in mining application.
Ø  It is used in major engineering project.
Ø  It is used in road construction where pavement recycling and stabilization is done.
Ø  It is used in domestic construction.
Ø  It is used in precast concrete.

Advantages of Blended cement

Ø  Water consumption is less by using this cement so it is easy to work with shape.
Ø  After 28 days strength is stronger than OPC.
Ø  It gives you better finer texture than OPC therefore It is used infinishing and elevation work.
Ø  The permeability of concrete is low thus reducing penetration of aggressive water run off compounds which in turn increases the life cycle of Concrete.
Ø  It decreases the crack formation which occurred due to thermal vibration of temperature.
Ø  Material used in this cement is the industrial product which reduces the use of natural resources like limestone, silica and clay.
